Fashion For A Cause

The nation's capital will once again serve as the backdrop for an evening celebrating both high fashion and community service when the DMV Community Awards and Fashion Show Gala returns to Washington, D.C. this summer.

Scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, the event promises to showcase the intersection of style and substance that defines the D.C. metropolitan area's cultural landscape.

The gala is the brainchild of Dr. Tauheed S. Burke and Mr. Damon Scott, who founded the event to recognize community and industry leaders that have made a positive impact in the DC Metropolitan area, which includes Baltimore, Prince George's County, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia.

"Our goal is recognizing community and industry leaders that have made a positive impact in the DC Metropolitan area while highlighting the fashion, style, and charisma our area is known for," Burke explained in announcing this year's event.

A Mission Beyond Fashion

What sets this gala apart from typical fashion events is its commitment to community impact. Proceeds from the event benefit Kiyah House and create education and resources for underprivileged individuals throughout the community.

The dual mission reflects the background of its founders. Dr. Burke brings an impressive portfolio of business leadership and community outreach, including service in the US Navy, leadership at Primerica Financial Services as Regional Vice President, and founding Complete Enhancement LLC, a multi-million dollar construction company.

Burke's achievements include induction into Marquis Who's Who in America in 2022 and receiving an Honorary Doctorate Degree in February 2024. He is also an author, having written "Succeed Anyway" and "Inspirational Quotes for Entrepreneurs Daily Living."

Growing Recognition

Since its inaugural event in 2024, the DMV Fashion Awards has gained recognition within the regional fashion and business communities. This year's gala has attracted signature sponsors including WEMODEL USA and Upscale Magazine, organizations that align with the event's commitment to excellence in fashion and community development.

The event's timing reflects the growing prominence of the D.C. metropolitan area as a fashion destination, complementing established events like DC Fashion Week while focusing specifically on community leadership and local talent.
